Aerosols provide a convenient means of storing and dispensing a wide range of goods for personal, household, medical, technical and industrial use. With more than 5.2 billion units manufactured within the European Union, FEA estimates that this equates to about 180 000 tonnes of tinplated steel and 60 000 tonnes of high grade aluminium available for recycling.
Recycling is the aerosol industry’s preferred route to recover the value of used up aerosols. FEA advocates that used up aerosols should be included in recycling schemes (when not yet included).
Practical experience of about 20 years by recycling schemes in many countries shows that by taking some basic precautions used up post-consumer aerosols can be included in the normal household waste packaging stream effectively and safely.
